Blac Salt
Blac Salt is an Oyster Bar seeking to provide a unique upscale dining experience in Lower Manhattan. It draws new customers with its unique take on a classic, elegant NYC culinary venue.
The goal was to ground the restaurant in the
visual language of classic NYC dining while making it more distinctive and engaging. Drawing from luxury branding principles, The design maintains
a refined, upscale presence.
For the wordmark, I explored traditional high-contrast typefaces commonly used in luxury branding. Still, I ultimately
shifted to a more free-form, sharply defined letterform to create a more distinctive identity. The tightened tracking adds
a sense of craftsmanship and precision, aligning with the restaurant’s focus on high-quality cuisine.
When exploring how the brand would look in signage, I took inspiration from the streets of NYC. The layouts have to remain cohesive with the NYC upscale dining scene, yet be distinctive enough to capture the attention of Manhattan residents. The unique color scheme, typography, and subtle pattern accomplish this.
The menu continues the theme of upscale dining. It also has subtle imagery that helps it recognize the cuisine.
