Compostr is a UI project that I have extended brand collateral for. Compostr aims to encourage young people to pick up composting as a sustainable practice. Through research, we decided young people are more likely to pick up and continue sustainable practices when they feel they are surrounded by a supportive community. The app style reflects this motif with friendly yet sophisticated and reliable typography, iconography, and color.

Made in collaboration with Layne Wager and Jorie Allison.
Our research started with this question. In our process, we then developed a target audience and secondary questions. We had a very informative visit to Lierer’s Market, a neighborhood low-waste market that hosts a compost bin. There we talked to Julia, a city advocate and partner at Queen City Commons. She stressed the need for community in the practice of composting, and this was the foundation of our design. We want to connect the community compost expert with the novice. Pictured below is our research and site visit. Also below is our app architecture and framework.
